A Swiss-type lathe is designed to turn small, complex, precision parts. It differs from a conventional lathe where the part is fixed and the tool moves. A Swiss style machine allows the stock /part to move on the horizontal Z-axis with the tool being stationary. This allows for machining of very small diameter parts with greater length to diameter ratio. With the quantity of stationary and live tool stations this machine offers. Complex parts can be completed in one setup, eliminating the need for secondary machining and deburring operations.
